The GlenAllachie
The GlenAllachie distillery proudly reveals its oldest and most distinguished single malt expression to date: the 35-Year-Old GlenAllachie. This remarkable release showcases the distillery’s relentless dedication to cask mastery and small-batch whisky production, under the leadership of renowned whisky maker Billy Walker.
With over 52 years in the whisky industry, Walker has cemented his legacy through his exceptional expertise in cask management and his refined sensory intuition. His deep understanding of maturation processes is what brings this exclusive whisky to life, crafted from six hand-selected casks, each holding whisky from the summer of 1989.
The GlenAllachie 35-Year-Old, priced at £1,479 (UK RRSP), embodies the distillery’s philosophy of creating boutique whiskies with exceptional character. Encased in an opulent oak box, this prestigious single malt was matured in a combination of three Pedro Ximénez, one Oloroso, and two virgin oak casks, resulting in a symphony of rich flavors.
The whisky itself promises an indulgent experience with a profile of rich mocha, ripe pineapple, sweet spices, and treacle tart. The presentation reflects its rarity: a weighty, handmade box adorned with hand-carved details, a moleskin-coloured interior, and a brass plaque celebrating Walker’s meticulous cask selection. A removable oak plinth proudly supports the elegant decanter, which echoes the design of the iconic GlenAllachie bottle, its details printed in luxurious gold ink.
Accompanying the decanter is a booklet, featuring Billy Walker’s handwritten notes detailing the story behind this exceptional release and his careful selection of the casks. Even the booklet’s FSC-certified cover reflects the distillery’s commitment to sustainability, being crafted from spent malt.
The whisky is presented at 48% ABV, natural in colour, and non-chill filtered, ensuring the essence of the liquid is unaltered. GlenAllachie believes this purity allows the whisky to truly shine, offering an unadulterated tasting experience.
Billy Walker hosted an exclusive pre-launch dinner for industry insiders and media last week, offering a first glimpse at the 35-Year-Old before its official release.
