The Isle of Raasay Distillery is making waves with its latest offering: a limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky matured exclusively in rare Marsala Vergine casks. This release not only introduces a unique flavor profile to their growing portfolio but also debuts a stunning new packaging design that reflects the brand’s island heritage.
Raasay’s Marsala Cask Single Malt is a truly unique meeting of two distinct coastal terroirs—the Isle of Raasay and Sicily. The distillery sourced these exceptional casks from Frazzitta, one of Sicily’s oldest Marsala producers, known for aging its wines for decades. The casks previously held Marsala Vergine DOC, a dry, nutty, and deeply oxidative wine similar to a dry Sherry. This distinct aging process imparts a remarkable depth of flavor to the whisky.
Master Distiller Alasdair Day noted that the use of these particular casks is incredibly rare in the whisky industry. “The casks we’ve used to mature our whisky have been seasoned with the bone dry Marsala wine for up to 30 years,” he said. The result is a rich and complex whisky with baked apples and maple syrup on the palate, balanced with dried pear, apricots, and a balsamic sweetness. The finish is long and smoky, with notes of roasted coffee.
Bottled at 50.7% ABV, this exclusive release is limited to just 12,300 bottles worldwide.
New Packaging Reflects Raasay’s Unique Identity
Accompanying this special whisky is a new packaging design that gives the brand’s limited releases a clearer identity. The new colour scheme, featuring cool slate grey tones, is a direct nod to the rugged, volcanic landscape of Raasay. The bottle itself includes fossil-like indentations, further connecting the design to the island’s geology.
The Marsala Cask Limited Release is available from today, August 7, 2025, at independent retailers in the UK and on the brand’s website. Shipments are also heading to key global markets, including Germany, France, and the US. Each bottle is priced at £75 (US$100 or approximately €94).
In other news, the Isle of Raasay Distillery recently announced plans to expand its accommodation offerings this autumn, welcoming more visitors to the beautiful island. This expansion further solidifies the distillery’s commitment to sharing the unique story and spirit of Raasay with the world.
