A Limited Edition Tribute to Lochlea’s Legacy
Ayrshire’s Lochlea Distillery is marking its sixth anniversary with the release of an exclusive limited-edition whisky. This special expression continues the momentum of last year’s inaugural age-statement whisky, which sold out within 24 hours of its launch.
Crafted using casks from Lochlea’s very first year of production in 2018, the 6-Year-Old whisky reflects the distillery’s commitment to tradition and innovation. The selection process was led by newly appointed master blender Jill Boyd, alongside distillery manager Darren McCormick, who have taken over production leadership following John Campbell’s departure last year.
A Unique Blend of Casks
For this anniversary release, six casks were carefully chosen: three Bourbon barrels and three oloroso Sherry casks. Jill Boyd described the whisky’s profile, stating: “Creating this six-year-old single malt has been an incredible way to begin my journey at Lochlea. The oloroso casks provide a rich depth with notes of juicy, ripe berries, sticky dates, and candied ginger. Meanwhile, the Bourbon barrels add a delicate sweetness with hints of vanilla and light caramel, balancing the fruitiness beautifully. The finish is long and rich, with silky tannins and warm oak spices rounding out the experience.”
A Timely Launch
Set to be released on 24 January, this limited-edition whisky arrives just in time for Burns Night on 25 January, a fitting nod to the distillery’s heritage. Lochlea Farm, the distillery’s home, is steeped in history as the former residence and workplace of the renowned Scottish poet Robert Burns from 1777 to 1784.
Exclusivity and Pricing
With only 2,500 bottles available worldwide, the Lochlea 6-Year-Old whisky is priced at £90 (US$110) per bottle. This limited release is sure to capture the attention of whisky enthusiasts and collectors alike.
