Kilchoman Distillery Unveils Its First-Ever 10-Year-Old Loch Gorm
Kilchoman Distillery has reached a significant milestone with the release of Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2025, marking the first-ever 10-year-old expression of this annual sherry-matured edition. This launch represents a historic moment for the Islay-based distillery, showcasing a decade of meticulous aging in sherry casks.
A Tribute to Islay’s Largest Freshwater Loch
Loch Gorm, the namesake of this limited edition, is Islay’s largest freshwater loch, located near the Kilchoman Distillery. The loch’s dark, murky waters are reflected in the deep copper tones of the whisky, offering a visual hint at the rich and complex character developed through sherry cask maturation.
Tasting Notes: A Symphony of Flavours
The Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2025 delivers an exquisite balance of rich sherry influence and Kilchoman’s signature peaty character.
- Nose: Caramelised custard tart, freshly roasted coffee, and subtle notes of candied ginger.
- Palate: A delightful fusion of honey-roasted figs, cloves, and sticky toffee pudding, intertwined with a delicate smokiness reminiscent of barbecued bananas.
- Finish: A lingering, savoury undertone complemented by a smoky and earthy influence.
The Perfect Maturation
Kilchoman’s founder, Anthony Wills, describes the 10-year-old Loch Gorm as reaching its perfect age:
“Loch Gorm, in my opinion, is reaching its perfect age, balancing those rich sherry notes with our classic Islay spirit. Ten years of maturation in sherry casks has added an abundance of rich spices, dark fruit, and barbecue sweetness to the light citrus and peaty character of Kilchoman.”
