Crafting Excellence
Suntory’s chief blender, Shinji Fukuyo, carefully orchestrated the blend, aiming to evoke a sense of tranquillity and nostalgia. Fukuyo encourages connoisseurs to “enjoy the pure aroma sharpened over the years, reminiscent of old temples and storied storehouses.”
Exclusive Design
To complement the whisky’s rarity, Japanese washi artist Eriko Horiki collaborated with Suntory, handcrafting the washi label that adorns the Hibiki 40 Years Old box. The bottle design is equally exquisite:
- Crystal glass with 30 facets, symbolic of craftsmanship associated with the Japanese imperial family.
- Decorated with traditional maki-e, mother-of-pearl inlay, and gold lacquer.
The packaging doesn’t stop at the bottle. The wooden box is made from 12 varieties of Japanese wood, including pine and zelkova, with 12 faces representing the months of the year. The four seasons of Japan are illustrated using maki-e lacquer, completing the design with elegance and depth.
